Karsh Kale

Karsh Kale's realize crew have created an important recording in the world of asian music. This might be the first real melding of classical traditional hindustani music and DnB--so much so that the combination aspect of it disssappears. There is a new synthesis brewing here, and it's an updated form of classical music. Kale weaves both traditional Indian instrumentations, indian vocals, and varying breakbeats.

Kiran Ahluwalia

Ahluwalia sings Ghazals and Punjabi folk songs, mainly in a traditional style. (According to her website, she studied the art of Ghazal for several years in Hyderabad with a teacher named Vithal Rao, "one of the last living court musicians of the Nizam (King) of Hyderabad.") She has a remarkable, strong voice. Her band, which includes western guitar and bass, and has a bit of a jazz sensibility.

Zia Mohiuddin Dagar

Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar (1929-1990), fondly known as Bade Ustad, was one of the stalwarts of the Dhrupad tradition in post-independence India. He was largely responsible for the revival of the rudra vina as a solo concert instrument.

Italian by birth, Ileana Citaristi holds a Doctorate in Philosophy with a thesis on “Psychoanalysis and Eastern mythology”. She has come to Indian dance after years of experience in the traditional as well as experimental theatre in Europe. lleana has been living in Orissa, India, since the year 1979 in close contact with the people, their language and culture.

Uday Bhawalkar

Ganesh Anandan

The percussionist, composer and instrument-maker Ganesh Anandan was born in the south of India in Bangladore, the centre of Hindu Karnatic music. Ganesh Anandan works at transferring the rhythmic notions and percussive techniques of the south of India onto the tambourine, drums and various resonance surfaces. His dynamic style of playing is a unique blend of the classical Karnatic style with the North African and Persian traditions enhanced by a set of hand- and finger-techniques which he has himself developed.

Nagina

The Nagina is a snake in the form of a woman. In popular belief the snake is associated with wealth, fertility and power. In tantric symbolism, the snake represents the primal creative energy or Kundalini, which lies dormant in the space of the spine, which, when aroused, ascends and activates the chakras of the subtle body.
It is also the title of a movie made in Bombay. In the movie, the Nagina, played sumptuously by Sridevi, is discovered by her mother-in-law in her true form.

Ustad Ali Akbar Khan's family traces its gharana (ancestral tradition) to Mian Tansen, a 16th century musical genius and court musician of Emperor Akbar. Ali Akbar Khan's father, the late Padma Vibhusan Acharya Dr. Allauddin Khan, was acknowledged as the greatest figure in North Indian music in this century. Ali Akbar Khan himself is one of today's most accomplished Indian classical musicians.
